the local needs talk on thursday discussed a few different things, according to my mom.

but the one that stood out most was that he announced that based on the new book, the elders will be checking on those that have not been associating with the congregation for some time.

they will ask, "do you still want to be a jehovah's witness?

I agree with you...as far as i can tell nothing has changed and i doubt very much that these questions will get asked in an official capacity.Maybe some paranoia is on show here?Not surprising admittedly.

Can't Americans Understand Plain English?

i watched an interesting film last night.

"a handful of dust" with kristen scott-thomas and alec guinness.. it wasn't bad, so this morning i idly took a peek at the write ups on the net, it being a movie made in the 80's.

to my astonishment, some american viwers were complaining that the movie didn't have any sub-titles!!!

Name Some Trivial Things That Are Big Deals To JWs

so many things come to mind to show how silly jws sound in reality.

for example, being allowed to pass the microphones is a big deal, especially to a young brother.

or being given the "privilege" of cutting the grass or working on a "quick-build" is really something special to a jw.

When i was an MS i was delegated to all the time by lazy Ass Elders.

All the jobs delegated to me were a form of community service too.Cutting old Sisters Lawns(fair enough).Painting a Old Brothers Fence and fixing panels(yeah,didnt mind that either) but the killer was when an Elder (i was his book stud assistant)got me to help him lay a Patio down at a old Sisters one Saturday Morning...instead of ministry...but then i heard he invoiced her for the Work!!!! thats a whole differant thread though...lol...

But yeah,i willingly did (fell for)all that it was a big deal being a Ministerial servant.

A really ridiculous Privilege.

A question for my UK cousins: What are the different British accents?

since i have so many brits and uk types in one place, i was wondering if you all could classify or tell me the names of the different british accents.

i think most in the states could be grouped by region and then each region divided into regular folks and folks with cash.

for instance in thestates, you basically have north east which is can be characterized by your classic new york or boston accents.
